Do not send automatic direct messages on Twitter after someone follows you. Nothing says "I don't really care about you" more than an automatic message generated after someone follows you.

Do not oversell. Social media is for relationship-building and brand awareness. If you sell often and quickly, you've lost them already.
Do not use the same caption or visual asset for each platform every time you post. Make sure you switch it up between texts, links, photos, video, etc so that people can see versatility in the content you are showcasing.
